Onoskelis is one of the five Monarchs in Afterparty. She manages musicians who sold their souls to her in life and currently perform shows in Hell, including Lynda Landon. She is met by Milo and Lola should they choose to pursue Lynda for a ticket to Satan's rather than Fela.
Personality[]
Ono is opportunistic with a lax, confident demeanor and a sense of humor. She is described by one of her contractees as a "negotiator." At one point, Ono misleads Milo and Lola into believing that Lynda could betray their deal; as Lynda can later tell them that Ono was messing with them and doesn't care about people without talent, she likely did so for her own amusement.
Official Description[]
"If you're a famous musician, chances are you made a pact with a devil, and if you've made a pact with a devil, that devil was probably Onoskelis. Ono runs the entertainment side of things down in Hell, pulling from her pool of artists that have signed away their souls for talent and success."[1]
Appearance[]
Onoskelis is an tall, older-looking demon with purple, wrinkled skin and glowing yellow facial features. She wears a puffy black vest with a prominent, gold-lined collar over a red zebra print shirt, worn black pants, a gold-encrusted belt, and faded yellow shoes. She also wears a long, red bandage around her head; orange-tinted glasses with metal spikes and a gold chain; a silver cuff on her left arm and a spiked one on the other, and a golden horseshoe-shaped accessory on her head.
Background[]
Onoskelis was born as an angel to God alongside her brothers and sisters, including Apollyon, Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Sam Hill, and Satan. Ono joined Satan when he rebelled against God, and was punished by being cast out into Hell alongside her siblings.
Plot[]
If Milo and Lola decide to pursue Lynda Landon for her V.I.P. invite to Satan's party, they must meet Onoskelis and Valac in the Durdy Hurdy Gurdy's music venue on Little Rantalia in order to convince her to let Lynda out of her contract for the night. After questioning them, Ono agrees under the condition that they recruit an act to replace Lynda for the night and leaves after warning them to be wary of Lynda's intentions.
After recruiting either the chanters or Blackhouse, Onoskelis decides to have Valac and either Milo or Lola perform a dance routine alongside the performers in order to get a picture of how the performance will look like. After they eventually succeed, Ono concedes that their performance was better than she expected and agrees to let them perform in Lynda's stead for the night. She gives them advice to keep in mind when meeting Satan before teleporting away.
Later on, after Lola and Milo receive the quest from Satan to obtain two Seals from two of the four available Monarchs, Sam mentions that Onoskelis had just gone on vacation, making her unavailable for the quest.
Relationships[]
- Valac - Valac is Onoskelis' assistant who handles booking timeslots for her acts. He tells Milo and Lola that he prefers to call himself "executive peon," indicating that he views his job under Ono as tedious labor with little power of authority.
Quotes[]
- "And you thought this was the lavatory. Which it, uh, atleast partly is... There's just-- there are specific rooms for it. It's not the entire floor."
- — Ono to Lola if she said she thought this was the bathroom earlier. (determinant)
- "So. You need to take Lynda out tonight... ...for some vague, infatigable reason I'm sure is quite beyond my levels of understanding. And your father's label maker said... what on your toy chests."
- — (determinant)
- "The first word a human being ever said was, "property." I should know, I was there when he said it. I've bought souls for a baby's breath and I've bought souls for a ham sandwich-- the only difference was the "stuff" they thought they were getting in return. And for someone like Lynda who's so dog-shakingly desperate to get out of a contract-- that she'd send two souls who ain't been dead not seventeen minutes to bargain with me... Well, I think the plan deserves scrutiny, is all. Maybe check it for ticks before you scamper off on the songbird's behalf. Don't let her sell you out, kids. I see bad contracts signed every day."
- — Ono to Milo and Lola before sending them off to find a musician. (determinant)
- Valac: "I keep saying we should switch to a day calendar, the system you have is--"
- Ono: "And tell him the next time he comes alley-catting around, yowling for higher percentage-- that I will personally-- well not personally, but I will... you know, direct someone to personally rip his intestines out. And then I'll-- this part I'll do, I'll knit them into something... uh, something like a uh... Look, what would you not want your intestines knit into."
- Valac: "Um, like a-- a throw blanket? Like an ugly throw blanket--"
- Ono: "Okay, well not that, but something like that..."
- — Valac and Onoskelis before Milo and Lola come up to them with their musician proposal. (determinant)
- "If you can't sing, Valac, you dance-- If you can't dance you set things on fire... that's the rule of rock and roll-- And no one is going to watch obscenity peddlers "rap" like their brains are on strike-- unless things are humping each other in the background while they do it. So. Milo and Lola. Wanna stand in for me?"
- — Ono to Milo and Lola after they bring her Blackhouse over the chanters. (determinant)
- "Lucifer was the first rock star, you know-- before Lizst, before Paganini-- before that caveman that played a dinosaur's ribcage like a xylophone... It was him. And notoriety makes you... forget things. Responsibilities to yourself and others. And look, he has bigger things to worry about tonight than a drinking contest. (...) Just... every human creature carries microscopic mites-- mites that live full, hectic, provocative lives. They fall in love, have children, die, tragically-- and I say this not to make you itch-- I say this so that when you see rock stars and movie stars, people with jets... when you meet Satan... Remember that you are all planets... responsible for a billion souls. And so is he. And what else could be more important than that."
- — Ono's parting words to Milo and Lola. (determinant)
