“ | May you meet souls as nice as you on your journey through Hades.
— Roberto to Lola if she chooses to fix his hair (determinant)

Roberto Spaghetti is a character in Afterparty. After his death, he is sent to Hell due to his supposed massacre of a carnival and assigned Andy as his defense attorney during his trial. He is met by Lola and Milo during Apollyon's Seal quest in Little Rantalia, where she tells them to get Roberto a guilty verdict in exchange for her Seal.
Personality[]
Roberto is generally friendly and polite towards others. He appears to be a selfless person, having been a leading interventionist expert in life devoted to helping alcoholics. Though he is somewhat unperceptive, not recognizing Milo and Lola in their disguise unless told, he will recognize if they attempt throw his case and will call them out if they revealed their true identity to him earlier.
Appearance[]
Roberto wears a brown vest over a long-sleeved blue shirt and tie, a dark red scarf, high-waisted brown pants, blue socks, and brown shoes.
Background[]
Roberto was born in the province of West Flanders, Belgium and owned a cat named Huey (named after Huey Lewis, his favorite New York musician).[1] During his first heard conversation with Andy, Roberto mentions that he reminds him of his uncle, who often took him to pick apples during the summer and placed him upon his shoulders. He can also mention his mother, who he implies is deceased.[2]
At some point, Roberto hired a warlock to house sit his cat, who went on to create an "embryonic homunculus that feasts on the living in [his] own craven image" from the hair in Roberto's bathtub. The warlock sent this copy to commit a massacre and burn a carousel at the carnival that fired him for his fortune readings being "too depressing."
Plot[]
Roberto is first seen in cuffs alongside Andy when Milo and Lola arrive at Little Rantalia for Apollyon's Seal quest. Milo and Lola can choose to stop and overhear their conversation. If they do so, Roberto calls out to them and, after a short conversation, asks if Lola would fix his hair in order to have one last piece of affection before potentially being damned, to which she can either accept or ignore.
Later on, after Lola and Milo find a disguise, Roberto is met again while being taken into The Sealed Knot. After he calls out to them, Lola and Milo can either reveal their true identity (to which Roberto compliments their craftsmanship and either calls them his "hair friends" or recognizes why they felt too good for him) or maintain their identity as a demon, to which Roberto notes that they sound familiar. He is then herded inside by Andy.
Later on, Roberto is teleported into Little Rantalia's courtroom, suspended above The Hole Where Satan Fell. If Milo and Lola revealed their identity, he will call out to them as his friends.
Andy presents Roberto's case, revealing that the warlock who framed him had died in a "warlocking accident" five minutes prior to the case and plea-bargained in exchange for a lesser sentence, revealing his role in Roberto's "crimes." If Milo and Lola make their attempt at thwarting his case too overt and told him their identity, Roberto recognizes this and reveals their identity as two humans in order to stop them; however, the judge dismisses this as something that happens often.
As Andy prepares to show the confession note from the warlock, Lola and Milo can choose to either let Andy show the confession, which results in Roberto being acquitted and sent to Heaven; or either accuse Andy of forging evidence or set him on fire, which results in Roberto being condemned to Hell and sent to the seventh circle for Processing in the morning. If they condemned him, Lola and Milo both note the amount of fear in his face later on.
If Roberto was condemned to Hell, he is called into Satan's house on Welkin Way by Beelzebub during their confrontation against Satan. He plays a part in leading Satan's intervention at first; however, after Apollyon reveals his occupation in life as a leading interventionist expert, Satan sets him on fire and he runs off screaming. If Roberto was acquitted, Apollyon reveals that, while she had tried to get an expert interventionist for the event, he had been sentenced to Heaven, leaving them somewhat aimless.
Relationships[]
- Andy - Andy initially disliked Roberto for "his accent, for his candor", and "for his kindness that [he] perceived as symptoms of an oncoming fever," but later came to realize that Roberto was telling the truth of his innocence and that he had a pure soul in his hands, and took it upon himself to exonerate him from his accusations.
Quotes[]
- Lola: "Maybe... are you really innocent, as you say?"
- Roberto: "I am, I am. Framed by sorcery. A tip from Roberto... never hire a warlock to house sit your cat."
- Lola: "Okay--"
- Roberto: "And if you do, consider cleaning your tub so he cannot use hair samples to create by witchcraft-- an embryonic homunculus that feasts on the living in your own craven image."
- — Roberto and Lola during their first meeting (determinant)
- "Uh, Miss Apollyon, I can begin. We should all begin by telling Lucifer, here, how much he is loved... and appreciated and cared for."
- — Roberto to Apollyon during their intervention at Lucifer's (determinant)
